Australian Film is intended to provide students of film and media, and not just those interested in Australian cinema, with an extensive and valuable resource through which to study cinema in a national context.

The site was conceived in 1995 by Dr Tom O'Regan, who is the author of Australian National Cinema (Routledge, 1996) and Australian Television Culture (Allen & Unwin 1993). He was, with Albert Moran, co-editor of Australian Screen and An Australian Film Reader. Professor O'Regan was also a founding editor of Continuum: The Australian Journal of Media and Culture, and is now Director of the Key Centre for Cultural Policy at Griffith University, Queensland.

OzFilm is one of the numerous resources within the Culture and Communication Reading Room at Murdoch University.

Most of this sub-site - and indeed almost all of the ReadingRoom site - was put on the Web by Garry Gillard.
