Michael Emmison

Michael Emmison teaches in Sociology at the University of Queensland. His current research interests include the analysis of helpline interaction with specific reference to technical advice giving (the Microsoft helpline project with Carolyn Baker and Alan Firth) and interaction on Kids Helpline (with Carolyn Baker and Susan Danby).

He is also interested in ethnomethodological analyses of uses of visual information -- maps, direction signs etc.  Previous research has included analysis of ceremonial talk ('Victors and Vanquished') and the application of CA to 'scripted', 'fabricated' or 'pretence' interaction ('Conversation on Trial' and 'Sooty, Sweep and Co').

Mike writes (20th Sept 2001): 'Snuffy the bear? who is this imposter? There's only one little ursine creature with EM/CA credentials as the attached PowerPoint presentation will demonstrate!'
