Anne-Marie Barraja-Rohan
Anne-Marie Barraja-Rohan works in applied linguistics in the Department of Linguistics at Monash University. She is interested in second language acquisition and CA: particularly in interactions involving non-native speakers of English, education and applying CA in language teaching, troubles-talk, paralinguistics, cross-cultural communication and intercultural competence.
At present, she is undertaking a longitudinal study into the interactional competence and language socialisation skills in overseas international students from a non-English speaking background. CA is used to analyse videoed interactions of dyads involving non-native speakers recorded over a year, and to track any development change in their interactional competence. Anne-Marie has also co-written a coursebook with Ruth Pritchard on the application of CA in language teaching called Beyond Talk.
