Johanna Rendle-Short

Johanna Rendle-Short lectures in Applied Linguistics at the Australian National University. She has recently complete her PhD, entitled Talk and Action in the Computer Science Seminar, in which she examined the way in which seminar presenters use both talk and non-verbal actions to structure their interaction.

Johanna is interested in all aspects of interaction, especially nonverbal interaction. Her CA work has focussed on situated talk and technology, as well as the use of discourse markers in institutional talk and everyday converstion. She is also interested in Applied CA, particularly with reference to speakers with communicative impairment and to non-native speakers of English.
