Staff - A/Prof. Gail Phillips
Associate Professor Gail Phillips is Chair of Media Studies Programme and Chair of Arts Research Committee.
She began a career in radio in 1983 as journalist/News Editor at Radio 6NR, the community radio station at Curtin University in Perth. She moved to the commercial talk station Radio 6PR in 1984 as producer of the Sattler File current affairs program, before joining the ABC in 1986 as a current affairs producer on 720 6WF, the ABC metropolitan radio station in Perth. Her production credits include the 720 6WF morning and drivetime current affairs programs, the Radio National current affairs breakfast program of which she was Executive Producer, and the 1994 Boyer Lecture series featuring media entrepreneur Kerry Stokes. In 1997 she produced the documentary ' Reflections On Shine – The Helfgott Family Story' for Radio National and Radio New Zealand.
Gail served as Manager of 720 6WF for three years, before leaving the ABC to join Murdoch University where she lectures in radio broadcasting in addition to her Head of School role.
Her book The Australian Broadcast Journalism Manual, co-authored with Mia Lindgren, was published by Oxford University Press in 2002.
